Local Pensioners Lobby Lyn | |
On Wednesday 22nd October up to 1000 pensioners entered Parliament as part of the National Pensioner Convention's Annual Parliamentary lobby. At the lobby pensioners entered Parliament to meet with their MPs to discuss a range of issues including pensions, council tax and utility bills. Amongst them were a number of pensioners from West Ham who met with their Member of Parliament, Lyn Brown.
Lyn said "I pay tribute to the hard work of all those who were involved in the Pensioners' Convention Parliamentary lobby. I had a very interesting and valuable discussion with my own constituents on important issues that concern pensioners today”
“In the current economic climate it is particularly important to address the difficulties that pensioners face. This is why I welcome the Labour Government’s new measures to help pensioners with their fuel bills this winter. This includes an extra £50 to 60-70 year olds and £100 to pensioners over 80, along with the increase in Cold Weather Payments from £8.50 to £25 to all those on Pension Credit”
“I strongly believe that pensioners deserve to be treated fairly, and have decent incomes. This is why I strongly supported this Government’s move to correct the mistakes of the Tory government by restoring the link between pensions and earnings. I believe that this along with other measures like providing of free bus passes, TV licences and free eye tests demonstrate that Labour is on the side of pensioners”.
