Lyn Brown, Labour MP for West Ham, has signed up to the 10:10 campaign which requires participants to cut their carbon emissions by 10% by the end of 2010. Thousands of individuals have signed up – including the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers – as well as businesses, schools and hospitals.
Lyn said: "I was eager to add my support to the 10:10 campaign straight away. Cutting 10% in one year is an ambitious but necessary target if we are going to avoid the potentially catastrophic damage which climate change will do to our environment
It’s easy to sign up to the 10:10 campaign online and I would urge everyone in West Ham to show their support for the cause, as we all need to think carefully about how to cut carbon emissions – now more than ever."
While long term targets for emissions reductions are already in place, the 10:10 campaign aims to show that significant changes are also possible in the short term. While the efforts of individual people to reduce their carbon footprints are often seen as being only a drop in the ocean, 10:10’s organisers hope that a concerted effort nationwide will make a real difference to carbon emissions across the UK.
