Lyn Brown Statement on Football Violence

“I watched last night’s events with dismay and despair. I had hoped that we had put days and evenings like this firmly behind us.

I know the club will be devastated by events that occurred in and around the ground, and the actions of a mindless minority have brought shame on the many thousands of decent West Ham and Millwall supporters.
My thoughts go out to those distressed and disturbed local residents who had to endure last night’s disorder on their very doorsteps, all those who have had their property and business damaged and also to those injured and their families.

There are some reports that this was a pre-arranged confrontation. Regardless of the accuracy of these reports, I hope it is the last we see of its ilk in West Ham or elsewhere. I hope and expect the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on those responsible.”
