Lyn Brown MP has urged all Newham residents to check whether they are eligible for the Government’s new Boiler Scrappage scheme. The scheme is open to anyone living in an owned or privately rented home who has an old ‘G-rated’ boiler. You can check whether your boiler qualifies at www.energysavingtrust.org.uk. If you have one of these boilers, the Government will contribute £400 towards a new, energy efficient ‘A-Rated’ boiler for your home. This scheme will help up to 125,000 households replace these highly inefficient boilers, cutting CO2 emissions as well as saving consumers hundreds of pounds on energy bills. If you don’t own your home or rent privately, you may be eligible for a grant of up to £3,500 towards improving your heating and insulation under the Government’s Warm Front Scheme. You can find out more at www.warmfront.co.uk. For more information on how you can benefit from these schemes, visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk, www.warmfront.co.uk or www.boilerscrappagescheme.co.uk . You can also call The Energy Saving Trust on 0800 512 012. Lyn Brown MP said, “The recent freezing weather bought home to us all how important it is to keep warm in the most cost-effective and energy efficient way possible. The Boiler Scrappage Scheme will help those with old boilers save around £200 per year on heating bills as well as helping the environment by cutting carbon emissions. This is just one of a number of schemes from the Government to help households reduce their fuel bills. This scheme will also secure the 250,000 jobs in small and medium sized businesses dependant on the boiler industry. Despite the recession, this Government continues to invest in our industries to create much-needed jobs.” | |
