Lyn Brown welcomes extra funding to tackle anti-social behaviour in Newham
Lyn Brown, MP for West Ham, has welcomed an extra £54,000 funding from the government to tackle anti-social behaviour in Newham.
This new funding is part of a £10million package announced by the government to ensure that practical help to tackle anti-social behaviour is delivered directly to where it is needed the most.
Government measures to tackle anti-social behaviour have made a real difference to communities with ASBO’s now stopping 93% of cases of anti-social behaviour. But there is more to do. Labour wants to make sure that the troublesome minority are unable to continue to disrupt the lives of the law-abiding majority.
Newham will be able to use this funding to increase training for frontline staff and to improve support for victims to ensure that people feel able to come forward to report acts of anti-social behaviour. By helping agencies and local communities to work together, Newham will be able to
tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour in our community head-on.
Lyn Brown, MP, said:
“Anti-social behaviour has been on of the issues that I have focussed on at my coffee mornings. Residents have talked to me about the impact on their lives and how poor behaviour by neighbours can make lives a misery.
I welcome this extra funding from the government and I hope it will be used to take practical action on the ground to support those working and living in our communities to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Cameron’s Tories dismiss these measures as gimmicks and they continue to oppose new laws and powers for local authorities so that anti-social behaviour can be tackled effectively. They don’t understand the misery anti-social behaviour can cause and are content to do nothing whilst law-abiding families suffer.
Labour understands that we all need to work together to make Newham neighbourhoods a safe and pleasant place to live. This funding will help the council, the police and the people of Newham to tackle anti-social behaviour together.”
