Lyn welcomes planning permission for the Olympic Village Polyclinic

Lyn Brown MP is delighted that planning permission has now been granted for the state-of-the-art Polyclinic to be built in the Olympic Village.  Construction is due to start later this spring.

The clinic is due to be completed in time for the Olympics when it will provide health facilities for the athletes.  After the Olympics, it will be developed by NHS Newham and reopened as a polyclinic in 2013.

The Polyclinic will provide the local community with access to GP surgeries, outpatients, physiotherapy, a children's clinics and x-rays in a new, four-storey building.  It will provide up to half a million extra appointments a year.

The clinic will also provide other facilities for the local community including a gym, community centre, dentists and a pharmacy.

Lyn Brown MP said,

“I am delighted that we have taken another significant step towards building a permanent new health centre for our community in the Olympic Village.  It is an essential part of the Olympic legacy for our area.  The designs look fantastic and I can't wait see work start in May.

We really need this polyclinic in Stratford.  Not just for those of us who live here now but for the communities who will live in the Village after the Games.  The clinic will be at the heart of these communities on the eastern side of the Olympic Village site.  Having access to world-class healthcare close to home will help thousands improve their health and well-being.

NHS Newham have been key in securing this planning permission and I would like to thank them for all their hard work.  As the polyclinic building takes shape in the next 3 years, they will be developing plans for the services the polyclinic will deliver.  They will be asking us all what services we want to have.  I urge you to take part – this centre must serve everyone in our community.”
