The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party whose purpose is fairness: fair rules, fair chances and a fair say for everyone.
Labour has only been in government for four short periods of the 20th century. However its achievements have revolutionised the lives of the British people. The values Labour stands for today are those which have guided it throughout its existence:
• social justice • strong community and strong values • reward for hard work • decency • rights matched by responsibilities
These values have guided the Labour Party through eleven years in government: everything from the large canvas of economic stability, full employment and record investment in public services, to the fine detail of the minimum wage, free museum entry and civil partnerships.
